Job Description
An Instructor for the County Outdoor Education Programs will be responsible for setting up, implementing, and safely guiding multiple participants through programmed activities, including but not limited to: challenge course activities such as team building, low ropes course facilitation, high ropes course facilitation (optional, but preferred), and/or other outdoor activities such as canoeing, environmental education, and hiking. This will include promoting self-confidence, positive group dynamics, and the expansion of their knowledge of the programmed activity or learning objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Must be a High School Graduate or higher; Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver"s License.Must have First Aid and CPR Certificates or be willing to obtain through offered trainings. Completion of Iredell County Outdoor Education Center Instructor Training required within 60 Days of employment. Experience working in cooperative team setting and working with groups.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Bachelor"s Degree.Accredited Professional Vendor Practitioner/Facilitator Certification and Ropes Course Facilitation.Environmental and Experiential Education, Canoeing experience, and/or Rock Climbing experience.
SKILLS: Ability to handle unexpected circumstances, good understanding of group management.Must have a developed understanding of teamwork and communication, ability to work with diverse groups of people, confidence in ability to instruct groups, and enforce procedures.Strong attention to detail.
ATTITUDE: Safety conscious, mature, confident with working outdoors in a natural environment, calm, creative, encouraging, patient, empathetic, and positive.
