Job Description

We are looking for instructors that have wilderness medicine and outdoor guiding experience with the skills to teach WFA (Wilderness First Aid) to WPR (Wilderness Professional Rescuer) level courses. Prospective instructors need to be great storytellers and hands-on educators that are willing to share their professional experiences and create all-encompassing, engaging learning environments. A huge component of our curriculum is incorporating tools for rescuer mental health and we look for instructors who can speak authentically to these topics.

Instructor responsibilities are teaching medical, trauma, and environmental topics to the latest evidence-based guidelines in austere medicine/in accordance with course materials, supporting students' through hands-on learning, teaching to a variety of learning styles, facilitating testing, collecting student paperwork, accounting for course equipment and post-course inventory.

REQUIREMENTS

• EMT, Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapist or Physician

• Healthcare Professional CPR

• Wilderness Medicine Upgrade (DiMM/FAWM preferred)

• Search and rescue, ski patrol, or mountain rescue experience

• Outdoor guiding and extended trip leading experience

We will accept applications from around the country but are prioritizing individuals that have flexible schedules and availability to teach our most popular courses:

• 16-20 hour Wilderness First Aid (WFA)

• 24-hour Wilderness First Responder Recertification (WFR-R)

• 40-hour Rock Responder (Seneca Rocks, WV & Joshua Tree, CA)

• 80-hour Wilderness First Responder (WFR)

• Instructor Compensation: $20/hourly for all in-person courses (i.e., $400 for 20-hour WFA, $1,600 for 80-hour WFR courses) + any associated travel and lodging expenses.

• We require instructors to shadow the course they will be teaching before instructing it. Shadow compensation rates for in-person courses are $100/day.

• Every in-person BCP course is facilitated with two instructors; minimum course size is 12; maximum is 24.

  Instructors are onboarded as Independent Contractors and the process is streamlined through Dubsado for ease and includes a background check and license/certification verification.
