Position Overview

To assist the Chief Instructor by running governing body course which include RYA, British Canoe and British Stand up Paddle Boarding Association for RN Personnel, service dependants and others as authorised. In addition to undertake support of maintenance staff when not required for waterborne operations including repair, preparation and basic maintenance.

Responsibilities

Tasks include, but not limited to:

  • Instruction of Courses in some or all water activities offered by the centre which include Sailing, Power boating and various Paddlesports.
  • To work as part of the water front team under the Chief Instructor ensuring pontoons, vessels and slipway are kept clean tidy and safe.
  • To support the Chief Instructor in observing teaching carried out by other RNSC users to ensure correct quality and procedures are maintained.
  • To undertake when not teaching the repair, preparation and maintenance of miscellaneous sailing craft and pulling boats held at RNSC.
  • To support the RNSC Administrator when available and covering duties in the event they are on holiday or sick.
  • To drive the Tractor for the purposes of boat movements.
  • To carry out duties, evenings and weekends as required to cover boat work activities. Whilst on duty, to maintain and control the issue desk in good order. This includes the checking and issuing of buoyancy aids and clothing, and the checking of qualifications.

What we’re looking for:

The successful candidate will be well organised and hold some or all of the below governing body qualifications:

  • RYA Instructor Sailing or above
  • RYA Instructor Power or above
  • British Canoe, Paddlesport Instructor or above
  • BSUPA Level 1 Coach or above
  • Accepted valid first aid certificate
  • Excellent Customer Service (Essential)
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Hold VHF GMDSS Qualifications (Training given where required)

Additional Information

  • (Proof of Right to Work in the UK essential). Successful candidate will be required to obtain a ‘Basic Disclosure’ via the ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’ in addition to the required MOD security clearance.
  • The contract operates a 37.5 hour working week between the hours of 0730 and 1700 Mon to Fri only.
  • Occasional week-end work may be required.
  • Holidays are to be taken during Royal Navy Leave periods.
  • Required to wear approved company work wear, including PPE when necessary
