Advanced 5-Day Rock Climbing Course in The Lake District, Cumbria

This is an in-depth, 5-day course for an experienced climber who wants to push their grade, learn to lead and practice improvised rescue techniques.

To begin with, you'll have a chance to perfect and build on the basics if you haven't already: learning to put a harness and helmet on properly, tying safe knots, moving in balance with your centre of gravity over your feet, developing good belaying habits, reading the rock, building basic anchors, setting up top-ropes, becoming a competent second and climbing lots of great routes at easier grades from Difficult to Severe.

As soon as you are confident in your foundation with all of the above, you'll have heaps of opportunity to improve your climbing technique, learn more about multi-pitch climbing, build more complex belay anchors, learn to lead on routes you can climb easily, push your grade on harder climbs, develop skills for looking after your second, learn about improvised rescue techniques and climb lots of great routes at grades from Difficult to HVS.

With five days of wonderful climbing on brilliant volcanic rock, and with just two clients to one professional instructor, you'll learn and do loads. There is a big emphasis on reading the rock well, climbing smoothly, placing reliable protection, setting up bomb-proof belays, making good decisions and enjoying as much rock climbing as we can fit into the week.

Based in the beautiful Great Langdale valley and surrounded by heaps of classic routes, there are lots of options for us to choose from. The plan for each day will be tailored to your objectives and make the most of the top-quality climbing venues in Langdale and the wider Lake District area, with scope for travelling to Borrowdale, Buttermere and more.

Raven Crag - Quality single and multi pitch climbs with a short walk-in.

Gimmer Crag - A brilliant multi-pitch crag of immaculate volcanic rock.

Black Crag (Wrynose) - Great single pitch climbing on excellent rock.

Pavey Ark - An adventurous, multi-pitch crag above Stickle Tarn.

White Ghyll - Packed with brilliant rock climbs in steep situations.

Shepherd's Crag - A great variety of climbs in beautiful Borrowdale.

Black Crag (Borrowdale) - Home to the classic Troutdale Pinnacle.

Scafell Crag - A classic venue packed full with classic routes.

Scafell East Buttress - An awe-inspiring and steep crag.

The Napes - More classic routes like Napes Needle and Tophet Wall.
