Hike / Trek / Mountain Leader Europe : HOW TO GET STARTED

To become a Mountain Leader in Europe, here are a few suggestions to get started...

1. Gain experience: Most Mountain Leader programs require you to have a significant amount of experience in the mountains before you can start training. This could involve working as a volunteer or guide for a local outdoor organization or club.

2. Find a training course: Look for a reputable training provider in your area or country that offers Mountain Leader courses. In Europe, there are many organizations that offer such courses, such as the Mountain Training Association in the UK, the Union of International Mountain Leader Associations (UIAA) in Switzerland, and the French Federation of Alpine and Mountain Clubs (FFCAM).

3. Complete the training course: Once you have found a training provider, you will need to complete the training course. The course usually consists of a combination of practical and theoretical training, and you will be assessed on your skills and knowledge.

4. Gain additional experience: After completing the training course, you will need to gain additional experience by working as an assistant or trainee under the supervision of a qualified Mountain Leader.

5. Pass the assessment: Once you have gained enough experience, you can then take the assessment to become a fully qualified Mountain Leader. The assessment will test your skills and knowledge, and if you pass, you will be awarded the qualification.

It is important to note that the requirements for becoming a Mountain Leader can vary depending on the country or region in Europe where you plan to work. Therefore, it is essential to research the specific requirements and regulations in your area before beginning your activities or training.
